Alberta Junior Shorthorn Association Scholarship Recipient

The inaugural Alberta Junior Shorthorn Association scholarship is awarded to Kayla VanDeVoorde.  Kayla is enrolled at Medicine Hat College in her first year of the Practical Nursing diploma program. She was born and raised on a beef operation at Meeting Creek and is actively involved as a member of Peterson Family Farms. Kayla spent many years in 4-H, has been a community volunteer and a member of the AJSA since she was a young child. The AJSA is pleased to present a scholarship in the amount of $500 to Kayla.

Shorthorn Commercial Breeder Award 2022

Each year the Alberta Shorthorn Association recognizes one commercial cattleman who promotes and uses Shorthorn genetics in their herd to receive the Commercial Breeder of the Year Award.  The 2022 recipients of this award is presented to L-U Ranch, The Holt Family.  The Holt Family operate a 300 head cow/ calf operation near Irma, AB. Since the early 1990’s they have utilized Shorthorn bulls and heifer to breed their Simmental/Shorthorn based cow herd. Shorthorn Commercial Breeder Award 2021

Each year the Alberta Shorthorn Association recognizes one commercial cattleman who promotes and uses Shorthorn Genetics in their herd to receive the Commercial Breeder of the Year Award.  The 2021 recipients of this award is presented to The Senetza Family.  Tina and Jason Senetza and their three children, Brianna, Ethen and Ellena live near Smoky Lake which is located 115 km northeast of Edmonton. They live on the original family homestead and their mixed farming operation consists of 2000 acres of crop land, 1000 acres of hay and 1500 acres of native pasture.
